I am seriously considering buying an 18.5' Wahoo Center Console. I have always been a whaler fan and am comparing the Wahoo with a 17' Montauk. I dont need to be sold on the whaler but I am drawn to the Wahoo because it is a center console and that fits my style and lifestyle much more. So what are the group's thoughts on the Wahoo?
Which is preferred wire or 200lb flourocarbon as a leader for a casting wahoo lure?
My 86 Wahoo! has the smirk my friends 91 doesn't, funny the early Whaler hulls were smirkless and Wahoo! went the other way because of pressure from BW. I have owned several Montauks and still have a 74 and even though I like the Montauk cannot see a significant better build quality in the Whaler.
From all the posts looks like its been a great season on both quantity and quality for wahoo. Question - Seems that the vast majority of folks have been using the Nomad 220 DTX. Just wondering if its a thought to drag something different since...
Re: Wahoo - Fuel lines and internal gas tanks? Is the hose bad or just the metal fitting? If you can get away with it, I would just replace the metal fitting and not mess with any of the lines inside the boat. The external hose from the fitting to the engine is easy to replace. A simple smell test will uncover any fuel leaks.
What sized reel for wahoo trolling ? Braid pound test backing ? Do you tie the braided line directly to the Marauder/Norman type lures ? Do you use a length of mono from the braided backing tied to the lure ? And what pound test do you like/use...
